Roberts Concrete Pumping is a family firm based in Cheshire. On a Widnes job we bring the liquid screed, run the hose to your floor, pump it in and level it ourselves, so there is no gap between a supplier dropping off material and someone else laying it. Widnes is one of our closer towns, and we also work across Merseyside, Greater Manchester and North Wales.
A liquid floor screed arrives as a runny, pourable mix. Once it is pumped across insulation or a slab it spreads out and settles to a flat surface with very little hand work. That makes it a natural match for underfloor heating, for open-plan extensions and for any room where the floor needs to come out level for tiles or timber.
The questions we hear most are practical ones. Is the build-up ready? Can the hose get to the back of the house? Will the pour date suit the plasterer and the heating engineer? We answer those before anything is booked, so the day itself is straightforward.

Where it's used
Whole ground floors, and upper floors where the structure allows, poured once the house is watertight and the insulation is down.
New floor space at the back of the house that has to meet the existing floor at the same height, without a step.
The screed runs in around every pipe and leaves no voids, so warmth is carried evenly through the slab and up into the room.
Floors dug out, insulated and relaid while a house is being modernised, often with UFH going in at the same time.
Site teams who need the screed slotted into a build programme, whether that is one property or a run of plots.

Halton, the borough Widnes shares with Runcorn, has a Local Plan target of at least 8,050 new homes between 2014 and 2037. The north of Widnes is where much of that is happening: land off Derby Road and South Lane was taken out of the Green Belt in the 2022 plan, and Redrow gained approval in 2023 for 479 homes across those two sites, now marketed as Mill Green Meadows. Redrow is also selling at Oak Brook Manor on Boundary Stone Lane, and Prospect Homes applied for 99 homes at Abbey Farm off South Lane.
Most of our enquiries are smaller than a whole estate, though. Widnes grew fast from the 1850s around the chemical works, so the town has older housing nearer the centre and West Bank alongside later estates in places such as Upton Rocks, Farnworth and Hough Green. That mix means a steady stream of extensions and refurbishments, and plenty of them have no way to get a mixer anywhere near the floor. A screed hose can follow a side passage or go straight through the house instead.
Widnes sits just over the river from Runcorn, linked by the Mersey Gateway and the Silver Jubilee Bridge, with the M62 a couple of miles to the north. That puts it within easy reach of our base in Cheshire. We have no office or yard in Widnes; we drive out for each pour and plan the timings around your site.
How it works
Ring or WhatsApp with the postcode, the type of room, an approximate area in m2, whether UFH is fitted and the week you are aiming for.
We go through insulation, edge strip, membrane and any heating pipes with you, so the floor is genuinely ready to take the screed.
We pump the liquid screed in and level it, working to a time agreed with you and the other trades on the job.
Before we leave we explain how to look after the floor while it dries and what to check before any covering is laid.
Before pour day
If a different floor would serve you better, we will say so at the start.
Why Roberts
The people you talk to on the phone are the people running the business and turning up on the day.
We run concrete line pumps and boom pumps as well, so hard-to-reach floors are normal for us.
Area, access, preparation, heating and timing are all agreed in advance, not worked out on arrival.
A homeowner with one extension gets the same care as a builder with several plots.
Questions
Yes. We cover the whole of Widnes, from Upton Rocks and Farnworth in the north to West Bank and Halebank by the river, plus Hale, Cronton and Penketh nearby. If your postcode is close but not listed, give us a call.
There is no single price per m2, because the figure depends on how big the floor is, how deep the screed needs to be, how easy access is and whether UFH is fitted. Send us those details and we will come back with a quote for your floor.
It is usually firm enough for light foot traffic after a day or two, but being dry enough for flooring takes much longer and depends on depth, product, heating and ventilation. A moisture test, not the calendar, tells you when it is ready.
In many cases, yes. Liquid screed travels through hoses, so the pump can stay on the road while the screed goes through a passage or the house to the room at the back. We talk through the route with you before booking.
It is one of the most common reasons to use it. The screed flows around the pipes and encases them fully, which helps heat spread evenly. The pipes need fixing down and pressure testing before the pour.
We do both: we supply it and lay it. We do not hire out the pump without an operator, as a good pour and a level finish are part of the job.
Ring 03335 671 153 or WhatsApp 07402 749351 with the approximate size of the floor and when you need it. We will tell you honestly what it involves.
